Best Ibogaine Treatment Centers (2026)

Seven ibogaine treatment centers reviewed for cardiac safety protocols, medical credentials, and integration support — all outside the US (ibogaine is Schedule I in the US).

Ibogaine treatment centers are concentrated in Mexico and Costa Rica because ibogaine is a Schedule I substance in the United States. A growing body of research — including the 2024 Stanford MISTIC trial on veterans with PTSD and opioid use disorder — has drawn more patients to seek treatment abroad. That growth has also created an uneven market: some centers run rigorous medical protocols; others operate with minimal screening. This guide reviews the seven centers with the strongest publicly documented safety records.

How we scored these ibogaine treatment centers

We assessed each center on six criteria: mandatory cardiac screening (EKG, QTc measurement, and at minimum a physician review of your chart), on-site medical credentials, magnesium or other cardiac-protective protocol, integration support, program length, and pricing transparency. Centers that do not mention cardiac screening publicly received a note in this review.

1. Experience Ibogaine — Rosarito, Baja California, Mexico

Best for: first-time patients who want a well-established clinic within driving distance of San Diego.

Experience Ibogaine has operated since the early 2010s and is one of the most referenced centers in the English-language ibogaine community. The clinic is located in Rosarito, Baja California — about 20 miles south of the US border at San Ysidro — which makes it accessible without a long flight.

Their published protocol includes a pre-session medical consultation, a 12-lead EKG, a complete blood count, and a liver function panel. Magnesium pre-treatment is standard. Sessions are conducted with medical staff present throughout. The program runs approximately five days and includes integration sessions before discharge.

2. Crossroads Treatment Center — Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico

Best for: patients prioritizing a physician-led protocol in a comfortable setting.

Crossroads has positioned itself as a medically focused option. Their team includes physicians, nurses, and a dedicated integration coordinator. Published intake requirements include cardiac evaluation, full lab work, and a pre-session psychiatry screen. The facility is in Puerto Vallarta, a straightforward direct flight from most major US cities.

Crossroads offers separate programming for addiction (primarily opioid and methamphetamine) and a mental health track. Both tracks include the same cardiac safety protocol. Post-session integration is a planned part of the stay, not an optional add-on.

3. Beond — Cancún, Quintana Roo, Mexico

Best for: patients who want a high-end medical facility with a luxury setting and clinical follow-up program.

Beond is among the most medically structured ibogaine programs currently operating. It was co-founded by a physician and has published its safety protocol in peer-reviewed contexts. The cardiac screening includes 12-lead EKG, Holter monitoring, and a cardiologist consultation — a higher bar than most centers require.

The facility includes private rooms, a chef-prepared menu, and a structured six-month aftercare program for alumni. Beond has also participated in clinical research collaborations, which provides an additional layer of protocol accountability.

4. Clear Sky Recovery — Cancún, Quintana Roo, Mexico

Best for: patients seeking a medically supervised, mid-range option in Cancún.

Clear Sky Recovery operates in Cancún and has emphasized a physician-run model since its founding. Their published intake includes cardiac screening and an interview with their medical director before admission is confirmed. They accept patients for opioid dependence, alcohol dependence, and PTSD-related applications.

Clear Sky's program typically runs seven to ten days and includes integration work during and after the ibogaine session. Staff include medical professionals and a psychologist.

5. Root Healing — Sintra, Portugal

Best for: European patients, or US patients who want ibogaine within a legal framework (noribogaine is legal in Portugal; ibogaine is available in a clinical research context).

Root Healing operates in Portugal, where ibogaine occupies a different legal position than in the US or Mexico. Portugal's 2001 drug decriminalization law means possession is not a criminal offense, and ibogaine treatment centers have operated in a gray area that has become increasingly structured over time.

Root Healing offers ibogaine treatment alongside 5-MeO-DMT and ketamine programs. Their team includes medical staff and integration therapists. The program runs approximately five to seven days, with integration included.

6. Casa Sagrada — Baja California, Mexico

Best for: patients who want an indigenous-ceremony context alongside medical screening.

Casa Sagrada blends the traditional Bwiti ceremonial context with modern medical safety protocols. Their ibogaine facilitators have training in the Bwiti tradition, which originates in Gabon and is the cultural source of ibogaine use. Medical staff are on-site for the session.

Not every patient wants or needs a ceremonial framework — but for those who do, Casa Sagrada provides one of the more authentically structured options outside of Gabon itself. Cardiac screening is required before admission.

7. New Life Ibogaine — Rosarito, Baja California, Mexico

Best for: patients on a tighter budget who still want a border-area clinic with documented safety protocols.

New Life Ibogaine is another Rosarito-based option, offering programs primarily focused on opioid and methamphetamine dependence. Their published protocol includes a 12-lead EKG, blood chemistry panel, and physician review before admission. The facility is smaller than some competitors, which some patients find more personal.

Integration support is included in the base program. Alumni report that the clinical coordination is attentive given the facility's size.

Verdict: which ibogaine treatment center is right for you?

Best overall medical safety: Beond. The cardiologist consultation and Holter monitoring set a higher bar than any other center on this list. If cost is not the primary constraint, Beond's protocol gives the most clinical accountability.

Best value and accessibility for US patients: Experience Ibogaine or New Life Ibogaine. Both are within driving distance of San Diego, have documented cardiac screening, and offer significantly lower costs than luxury-tier centers.

Best physician-led mid-range option: Crossroads Treatment Center. The psychiatry screen and dual-track model (addiction vs. mental health) give Crossroads a more clinical feel than the ceremony-oriented centers.

Best for European patients: Root Healing. The Portugal location reduces travel burden for European patients and operates within a more structured regulatory context than Mexico.

What none of them can tell you: whether ibogaine is appropriate for your specific medical history, cardiac risk, and current medications. This is a question for your own physician — not for any treatment center to answer on intake alone. Use our ibogaine guide to understand the evidence and risks, then talk to your doctor before contacting any center.

What to ask before you book an ibogaine treatment center

The information a center publishes on its website is a starting point. Before committing to any deposit, get written answers to these questions:

  1. Who conducts the cardiac screening, and what does it include? (Minimum: 12-lead EKG, QTc measurement, and physician review.)
  2. Will a physician be physically present during my session?
  3. What are your exclusion criteria? (Anyone who cannot clearly state what disqualifies a patient should concern you.)
  4. What is your emergency protocol if I experience a cardiac event during the session?
  5. What integration support is included in the program, and what is available after I return home?
  6. Are your current licenses, if any, verifiable through a government registry?
  7. Can you connect me with a past patient reference?

If the answer to any of these is vague, ask for clarification. A reputable center will answer these clearly. See our medication safety guide for specific contraindications — lithium, certain antidepressants, and QT-prolonging drugs require a washout before any ibogaine session.

Frequently asked questions

Is ibogaine legal in the United States?

No. Ibogaine is a Schedule I controlled substance under the US Controlled Substances Act. Possession, use, or administration in the US is a federal crime. All treatment centers on this list operate in Mexico, Costa Rica, or Portugal. Texas passed SB 2561 in 2024 creating a state-funded research program, but clinical treatment in Texas is not yet legal.

What is the cardiac risk of ibogaine?

Ibogaine prolongs the QTc interval, the electrical repolarization phase of the heartbeat. A prolonged QTc can trigger ventricular arrhythmias including torsades de pointes, which can be fatal. The risk is real: ibogaine-related deaths are documented in the medical literature. Every responsible center requires a 12-lead EKG, QTc measurement, and cardiac clearance before any session. Magnesium pre-treatment is a standard cardiac-protective protocol. Do not attend any center that does not conduct cardiac screening.

How much does ibogaine treatment cost?

Ibogaine treatment costs approximately $4,500–$18,000 for a full program, depending on the center, program length, accommodation standard, and included services. Budget-tier border-area centers (Rosarito, Baja California) typically cost $4,500–$8,000. Luxury-tier centers like Beond run $12,000–$18,000. Cost does not reliably predict cardiac screening quality — verify the protocol directly regardless of price.

What conditions does ibogaine treat?

Ibogaine has the strongest evidence for opioid use disorder (OUD). Multiple observational studies and a 2024 Stanford randomized controlled trial (the MISTIC study, published in Nature Medicine) have documented significant reductions in opioid cravings and withdrawal symptoms. Preliminary evidence also supports applications in PTSD, treatment-resistant depression, and alcohol use disorder. Evidence for these indications is earlier-stage than OUD. Ibogaine is not a cure and relapse prevention requires integration work.

What medications are contraindicated with ibogaine?

Several medication classes interact dangerously with ibogaine. QT-prolonging drugs (certain antipsychotics, methadone, antiarrhythmics) significantly increase cardiac risk. Lithium can trigger seizures. SSRIs and SNRIs may interfere with ibogaine's mechanism and typically require a washout period (length varies by drug and half-life). Tramadol and opioid partial agonists like buprenorphine require a washout before ibogaine. Your prescribing physician — not the treatment center — should review your full medication list.
