Moreover, the mechanisms underlying rTMS's therapeutic effects remain unclear, particularly in disorders like generalized anxiety disorder, where preliminary evidence suggests a role for brain-derived neurotrophic factor and serotonin regulation.

Future Directions for rTMS Research

To unlock the full potential of rTMS in psychiatric care, future research must prioritize the establishment of standardized stimulation parameters and treatment-resistance grading frameworks. Multicenter trials with large samples are essential to validate the efficacy and safety of rTMS. Additionally, exploring the long-term safety and potential synergistic effects with other treatments will be crucial for its integration into clinical practice. As the field progresses, the development of reliable biomarkers will be key to achieving personalized and effective rTMS therapies.
